Hello, welcome to my website.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I grew up in Wadsworth Ohio, 40 miles south of Cleveland. When I walked down the hill from my high school, I would imagine the cloud banks in the distance as mountains. Those imaginary mountains soon turned into my dreams and eventually reality. After I graduated high school, I moved to Washington State. No longer did I have to imagine mountains, for the true “Mountain” of Washington was before me. When I first saw Mt. Rainier and the Cascade mountains, I knew this was where I was going to settle. I was 19. It did not take long to start hiking the state. I found I wanted to capture those moments in time. At 22, I bought my first 35mm camera and took it along with me on my hikes.
For over 29 years I have enjoyed this beautiful state. I currently live in Monroe. My interest in photography spans 26 years. Since then I have come to appreciate the constant learning of how light makes the moment so memorable. Being there at that moment is something I wish everyone could enjoy.
I have created this website to communicate what I see at that magical moment. I do not alter any content of the photograph and I preserve exactly what I see during that moment in the light.
Feel free to explore my site. I hope you enjoy my photographs as much as I enjoy capturing them.
A Partner of Light,
John B. Richter
